Here an automatically generated microcontroller circuit invokes detailed checks on many parts including the crystal oscillator circuit. These checks don't just verify that the oscillator is there, but that the frequency is correct, the crystal won't be over-driven, the maximum critical gain is respected, and that the tolerance variation of the selected capacitors over the temperature range combined with the pullability of the resonator will not violate the timing specification.
